Leschenault Netball Association
LNA's Representative (Rep) teams offers players the first step on the netball development pathway. Interested players nominate and register to trial for their respective age group. Athletes nominate their preferred playing positions and games are coordinated whereby players rotate through their preferred position in a game style environment.
LNA selectors are appointed by the Association Development Officer (ADO) to assess players during the game, and players are scored on their performance based on LNA's rating scale. Two trial dates are usually arranged for each age group, and the average of both trials scores are collated to determine the successful squad members.
LNA attempts to form two Rep teams (with up to ten athletes in each team) for each age group, however, the number of teams appointed is directly determined by the number of qualified coaches willing to volunteer to train and coach the teams.
Coaches are appointed, squads are announced by the ADO and training commences shortly after. Squads train over several weeks and following registration and payment of fees, team splits are announced. Teams then complete at both the Association Championships in Perth on the June long weekend, and the South West & Peel Regional Championships which are held in July each year.
Coaches must have achieved their (minimum) Development Accreditation to coach a Rep team at championship level. Development Accreditation involves online learning followed by a practical workshop component. Netball WA usually offer several Development Accreditation courses throughout the year, and interested persons are encouraged to enrol in the course via this link. The future of LNA's representative program relies on coaches willing to gain the required accreditation.
LNA usually offers Rep teams for the following age groups: U12, U13, U14, U16, U20. Successful athletes selected into a Rep team must play in the LNA domestic competition in the same year. Exceptions apply to U16 & U20 whereby players must have played in an LNA domestic team in previous years.
LNA endeavours to offer U11 the opportunity to partake in Rep trials, training and a 'friendlies' carnival in the latter part of the year, depending on coach availability and players expressions of interest.
